Crikey! I just returned from my daily swim on the beautiful Fijian beach and realized I have not updated this since Paris Hilton was in jail… You would not believe that I’d been abducted by aliens. Apologies to my regular readers! Even the little blue ones!

I am frantic; with setting fire to people wearing Crocs, learning to speak Japanese, and just generally being a nuisance to society in general, my day is a magical flight from mid-morning to early afternoon. I am totally exhausted. I wish you could be here to share it.

AKA: Mea Culpa.

A couple of weeks ago I ranted about blog posts in a comment on someone else’s blog. Somehow I segued from Ravelry pattern overload to lazy blog post overload. The general gist of my rant was that I’d rather see a post about just anything as long as it was something the blogger felt like posting about, or even no post at all, rather than a lot of blog filler memes.

I don’t know what got into me that day – I think maybe I just got up on the wrong side of the bed. Maybe I’d looked at the list of posts on Google Reader, and they were all “Ten on Tuesdays”. Maybe it was really Facebook overload. (Thank heavens I never signed up for Twitter.) I don’t really know what it was. But afterwards, I decided I was wrong and had overreacted.

It really isn’t an issue with any of the blogs I read. Perhaps I was having flashbacks to “Blog 365″, when blogland was awash with posts that were just filler to have something to post every day. But since that ill-fated year, the people who have continued to post daily are those who really want to. And if they need to have a couple of easy posts each week, what’s wrong with that? Or maybe the bloggers are going through a rough time and can’t bring themselves to post anything more personal. I’d rather see some bland blog filler posts than nothing at all for months at a time, and wonder whatever happened to that person. At least it allows for some interaction. And I’m not picking on “Ten on Tuesday”, either. I admit that a lot of those I don’t bother to read, depending on the subject that week. But others are pretty interesting, because they either lead to funny responses, or something that actually tells me something about the person or where they live.

So this blog post is to say… “My bad”.

I apologize for my rant.

In penance, tomorrow’s post will be blog filler.

Is it just me?

I seem to be having some weird stuff going on with my blog. Sometimes I don’t get the sidebar on the right. Sometimes I don’t even get anything but a post title. But there are no errors, and the browser seems to think that the page has loaded completely. Refreshing doesn’t help.

I have the same results with both Firefox and Internet Explorer. Yet it seems to be the biggest problem in the mornings. Later in the day, everything seems loads fine, so I have no reason to think there’s anything wrong with the WordPress code.

WTF?

Have you been having problems viewing my posts, or getting the sidebar?

I don’t know where to look for the problem, since sometimes it loads properly and sometimes it doesn’t, even though I haven’t made any changes.

Gadabout Knitter honored me with the Kreativ Blogger award! What a nice thing – thank you!

As stated, the rules of the Kreativ Blogger Award are:

List 7 things that you love and then pass the award on to 7 people…tagging them and letting them know they won! You can copy the picture of the award and put it on your sideboard letting the whole wide world know you are KReATIV!

However, I’m going to break the rules a bit, and only follow the first part – listing seven things I love, because tagging people for this kind of thing is one of the things I DON’T love.

Seven things I love:

1) The Pontiff. My guy is weird and wacky, but never boring.
2) Chocolate. Especially dark chocolate.
3) Cheese. All of it. Well, maybe not Limburger.
4) Knitting - not just for itself, but largely because it led me to:
5) The wonderful friends I’ve met through knitting and blogging about it. Not just the ones I’ve met in person, but my cyberfriends too. What a fabulous world we live in.
6) Being retired. Hopefully the economy won’t require a return to work.
7) Travel! Bring it on. As St. Augustine said, “The World is a book, those who do not travel read only one page”.

I’ve started on a quick project – a neckwarmer scarf for a friend for Christmas. I’m using a skein of Aslan Trends Del Sur, which is a super-bulky thick-and-thin merino. The pattern is Pidge Podge!, a free pattern on Ravelry. It’s just a simple rib, but I like how the thick-and-thin yarn is making an interesting texture. It’s like a flowing river. And it’s knitting up really fast. As soon as I’m done with this one, I’ll be starting another one. You’ve got to love those quickies.

And look at the great stuff I got from Chris, for being one of the whiners winers winners in Chaos’ birthday contest: yarny prizes, a tape measure, chocolate, music, notepads, and all kinds of black cat goodies, including a grow-your-own-black-cat kit.

I’m still puzzling over why the “Cuddly Pom Kit” title is printed in red letters that look like they’re dripping blood. Somehow bloody and cuddly don’t seem to go very well together. But maybe that’s just me.

Here’s the Wiki page for it. And there’s lots of info in the We <3 Progress Bars group, including help for different types of blogs.

I used the WordPress Widget that’s available here, though it only works on self-hosted WordPress installations.

Some people have even coded some nifty FO Galleries.

Have fun!

Look what I got from Laritza!

How nice! Thank you so much!

Though with this award comes great responsibility – coming up with your own list of award-winning sites. How to choose only four, from all of the great blogs I read? Sigh. I think I have close to 100 blogs in my Google Reader list.

So I’m just going to go with the first four that pop into my head first:

Zeneedle, of course. If I hadn’t found Margene’s blog, I might not have gotten connected with all of the wonderful SnB knitters, or with so many other wonderful blog friends.

Now Norma Knits. One of those wonderful blog friends I met through Margene, and got to meet in person recently. Her stories are always great, especially the ones involving stenotype errors.

Purling Dervish for so many WTF moments, and her successful “Free Joho” campaign.

Knitting Under Water for all things Canadian, and because I enjoy her chatty posts – it’s like sitting down with someone over a cup of coffee. But be sure to take off your shoes before you go in.

The rules:
[I'm not going to be a stickler for the rules - my award winners don't have to play along if they don't want to.]

1. Post this award on your blog. (Do save the photo image to your own site, please)
2. Add a link to the person who awarded you.
3. Nominate at least 4 other bloggers, and add their links as well.
4. leave a comment at the new recipients’ blogs, so they can pass it on.

I’m a little late to the party on this one, but I had to wait until DH was back in town for a proper interview.

Me: What is your favorite thing about my knitting?
Him: It keeps you busy.

Me: What is your least favorite thing about my knitting?
Him: It keeps you busy.

Me: What is something I have knitted that you recall as being good?
Him: My vests.

Me: Do you think knitters have an expensive hobby?
Him: Ummmmm… moderately so.

Me: Do you have any hobbies?
Him: [Laughs.] Many.

Me: What are your hobbies?
Him: Oy. Playing drums, electronics, music in general, hiking, racquetball, woodworking, electical [not to be confused with electronics], plumbing, scuba diving, snorkeling, cruising… everything I do in my life is a hobby.

Me: If we compared money spent on hobbies, who would win?
Him: I knew that was coming. Me. Except a lot of those things you do with me.

Me: Do you have a stash of any kind?
Him: I’ve got a whole basement full of electronic parts.

Me: Has my knitting in public ever embarrassed you?
Him: No.

Me: Do you know my favorite kind of yarn?
Him: You like several. You like those real soft ones.

Me: Can you name another blog?
Him: No. Well, maybe Margene’s.
Me: Do you know the name of her blog?
Him: Would you know how to read the color code of a resistor?

Me: Do you mind that I want to check out yarn stores everywhere we go?
Him: No.

Me: Do you understand the importance of a swatch?
Him: That thing you make before you knit? Yeah. That was a yes-or-no question, right?
Me: What -is- the importance of a swatch?
Him: To tell what size needle to use, and you can wash it and check the shrinkage, how dense it will knit – things like that.
Me: Very good!

Me: Do you read Cabled Sheep?
Him: No.

Me: Have you ever left a comment?
Him: No.

Me: Do you think the house would be cleaner if I didn’t knit?
Him: No.

Me: Is there anything you’d like to add in closing?
Him: No, I’m completely supportive of the habit.
