In the Garden

I was in Las Vegas for last weekend, and came back to a very happy garden. The veggies are evidently thrilled with the nice weather we’ve been having.  The peas are done for the year, and the spinach is also pretty much gone. But the lettuce is still doing surprisingly well. I’ve got a few small bell peppers and green tomatoes, and the Japanese eggplant is starting to set fruit. The globe eggplant is a lagging a bit behind, though.

I was really excited to see that the corn is starting to put up flowers:

And that the bougainvillea is recovering from the cold, harsh spring:

It lost a lot of leaves and most of the flowers when we had the cold weather and snow at the end of May. The leaves are still pretty sparse, but at least it’s blooming again. I’m just treating it as a large annual – it won’t survive our winters here, but it should give us a lot of summer color.

I’m really happy with how our little yard/patio/garden is doing this year. We may not have much space, but we’re enjoying what we’ve got.

You have done such a great job with your space. This kind of space seems very European to me, and I’m always in love with that look.

Nice use of space! Corn! I wanted corn but not enough to remember it this year. That garden looks fabulous – well, your whole yard. Gorgeous.

Since I’m not a gardener, I think your yard is huge! I love those pretty flower beds, it’s an oasis in downtown. I’m sure a yard your size keeps you plenty busy.
