Done and blocked, though not well-photographed due to a cold and gloomy day.
Pattern: Fountain Pen Shawl, by Susan Lawrence, from Interweave Knits Spring 2009.
Yarn: Handmaiden Mini Maiden, 1 skein, in Amethyst
Needle: US 7 (4.5 mm)
Ravelry: Project Page, Pattern Page
Modifications: Made Susan’s smaller version, with only 6 repeats of the main pattern. Worked the two bind-off rows with size 8 (5mm) needles. I had about 8 grams of yarn left over. The finished and blocked shawl measures 59″ across the wingspan, and 25″ down the spine.
This was a quick and fun pattern – the first time I’ve done nupps in an actual project, rather than just in a class. It’s a really nice size, too – it makes a very nice shoulder shawl/large scarf.
The yarn is really nice, though I do wish it was a little less stripey. Fortunately, it doesn’t look quite as stripey in real life as it does when photographed.

Another stunning project. Congrats. Now if I can just finish my lace weight shawl. I have a much greater appreciation for knitters who make these on a regular basis.
It’s GORGEOUS. Of course, I love the color.
The striping disappears when you wrap it aruond your shoulders. It’s beautiful and I love the yarn. Must.make.one for me.
Pretty!!!!!
beautiful!
Lovely! It’s really pretty.
Just beautiful, Cheryl.
Just beautiful. Well done, Cheryl!
Gorgeous! I love the colorway, stripes or no!
I think it’s absolutely beautiful, and the photograph is too good! Love the purple.
Gorgeous! Isn’t the yarn like buttah? It’s not really stripy. Or at least I don’t see them. Maybe it’s just me.
note to self: send all mini maiden to Cheryl and see what she’ll knit
Very pretty! Love the color.
That was FAST. No wonder you are two miles. I”ll just crawl away here, slowly, so no one sees me creep off the field of knitting.
Great job! Love the color.
It doesn’t even look very stripey in the photograph. It just looks really lustrous and the color looks very rich. I haven’t ever really felt like knitting one, but now I do. In Mini Maiden, no less. I’m such a copy-cat (otherwise called an emulator of greatness?)
Oh BEAUTIFUL. I am not a shawl person, but the whole light lace scarf mini-shawl? I’m all about it!
