I love it when beauty meets practicality.
A while back, I noticed a comment Susan had made on a blog post I was reading – she mentioned the Lantern Moon Knit Out Boxes. After seeing them, I knew I had to have one. Susan said our LYS was going to order them, so I had them put my name on one, in garnet.
They finally came in, and yesterday I went over there to pick it up.
Love!
The cleverness of this design allows you to either put your yarn in the box after starting your project, or removing your work-in-progress from the box. Most yarn holders don’t allow you to do that, since you have to thread the yarn through a fixed hole. Yarn bowls let you do that, but they’re not very portable.
This box-within-a-box design with keyhole openings lets you insert or remove your project at any time, while still providing a smooth, closed hole for your yarn. It’s lightweight and easily portable, with a built-in handle.
And it’s nicely crafted from beautiful silk in a variety of colors.
What more could you ask? Except perhaps for getting one as a gift instead of buying one. Or one in every color.
The timing was perfect.
Although I’m not planning to participate in the Ravelympics, I did plan to cast on for the Fountain Pen shawl tomorrow night in support of the Utah team, which is doing patterns by Utah designers. I wound the delicious skein of Handmaiden Mini Maiden (Amethyst colorway) on Tuesday, and was wishing I had the Knit Out box to use for the project. That evening, I found out they had come in, and one was waiting for me.
So I’ve got my pattern and needles at hand, and the yarn wound and stowed into the Knit Out box. I’m all set to cast on during the opening ceremony.
Now I need to get going and finish up Shauna before then! One sleeve cap and the neck to go.

Love your box!

The perfect combination of clever and beautiful! I’ll be looking out for these!
You made good time on your Shauna. Love the Knit Out box!
Very cool! Your equipment is ready…. counting down….
Shauna is going to be beautiful. Love that box!
I love that you’re using your grandmother’s napkins too. Now you just need to start using tablecloths……
Love the box! That is a very clever design.
