Quiet

I know, it’s been pretty quiet around Casa de Cabled Sheep lately. I had a trip down to Las Vegas last week for a few days, and then was a bit under the weather. Las Vegas was a bit under the weather, too. It rained all day on Wednesday – I don’t think I’ve ever been down there when it’s done that.

Las Vegas was OK – we weren’t there long enough to do much, but we did have a couple of really good meals. We had wonderful BBQ ribs at Ellis Island Casino & Brewery. There’s a regular restaurant there also, but we went to the “Barbecue & Brew” restaurant. All they serve are BBQ ribs and/or chicken. My BIL insisted that we all get a full slab of ribs, so that we could have leftovers for lunch the next day. I think it was $14.95 for a full slab, served with beans, coleslaw, garlic bread, and (mushy) corn-on-the-cob.  Their micro-brew beer was $1.50. I wasn’t wild about their Hefeweizen, but I had a sip of one of their darker beers and it was quite tasty.  This is a pretty popular place for locals, so expect a wait. Get your name in, then grab a beer and just chill for a while. (Oh, and in case you’re wondering, my husband had to make do with some mediocre pizza for dinner. But it turned out that he could actually sit right next to us during dinner, since our table at the BBQ place was right up against a pony wall that had a table on the opposite side for people who were eating pizza.)

We also went to the MRKT restaurant at the Aliante Station casino, which is a really nice steak and seafood restaurant. The calamari was some of the best I’ve had. I ordered a petite filet mignon, my husband had shrimp scampi, and the others had the special – prime rib stuffed with crab. We were all quite happy. When it came to dessert, my BIL insisted that we have some of the home-made ice cream. We got coconut, which was awesome. It was topped with crunchy little bits of toasted coconut. The manager told us that they have a fairly new chef, so they’ll be phasing in some changes. Hopefully there won’t be any changes to the calamari or ice cream. I’d go there just for those.

I was fine while we were down there (except for the darn blisters I got on the back of my heels from my new Merrills – fortunately my sister was packing up some shoes for a donation drive for Haiti, so I tossed those in the box). But the day we came back (Thursday) I started having some severe headaches and nausea. Not migraines – it was just like the headaches and nausea I was having after banging my head and getting a concussion about 6 weeks ago. (Yes, I had a CT-scan – no bleeding.) Yesterday was the first day I felt like I could get out of the house, so I went to SnB. I did pretty well until about the last 10-15 minutes, when I started feeling a bit nauseous again. But it didn’t last too long – it was better once I got home and had a bit of food – and so far today I feel OK. Hopefully that’s over.

I did get a lot of knitting done, even though I couldn’t knit much on the drive back. But I’ll leave that for later.

Ugh, I hope you get feeling better.

That’s good to know about the Ellis Island restaurant, we hung out there for a while playing and were pretty lucky. Maybe next time we’ll have some ribs.
