A bunch of you wanted to know what I was going to do with those gigantic circular needles we made.
I used them to make the “Eco Wool Cowl”, a pattern from my LYS (created by one of the employees). It uses about 3/4 of one skein of Cascade Ecological Wool, held doubled, and knitted on US 19/15mm circular needles. My Ravelry project page is here.
It’s meant to be worn with the reverse stockinette side out, so that the edges roll inside.
But I think I prefer it with the stockinette side out:
And of course, it can just be worn as a giant cowl/scarf:
Or you can be a pod person:
It’s wonderful for adding some extra warmth without having the loose ends of a shawl or wrap to deal with. I’m going to see if my mother wants it, since I thought it would be great for her when she goes outside in her wheelchair or scooter, since it wouldn’t get in the way as much as a jacket. It’s a bit too cold for it now unless she was wearing it over a coat, but as the weather turns nicer, it might be just the thing.
If she likes it, I’ll make another one for myself. If not, this one is mine.

Awesome! Funny too, I started a similar cowl/neck/shoulder warmer out of handspun last month but the top part was too big and I have to rip and redo. And now I’m inspired!
I really love that cowl! I think I will make a note of that pattern as a good gift to make and give to my “circle of friends” next Christmas. I’m really surprise that it only takes 3/4 of a skein to do. And, I agree with you that the stockinette side looks great with the rolled edges. All in all, a great quick and versatile gift!
Cute! Love the pod person pose.
The cowl looks great no matter how you wear it!
I love it! What a great idea. I bet your mother will love it.
Useful and attractive. Knitting is the best!
Looks very snuggly warm
Oh, yeah, I like the stockinette side out better, too! I’m a big fan of Eco-Wool, too. Another thing for me to steal the next time I visit.
Just the thing for this time of year!
I actually really like the RS look of it!
That is awesome!
That’s great – totally need to make one for my mom.
Nicely versatile! I was afraid it was going to look like a straitjacket. I agree with st st outside. I like the way the edges roll.
Cute!
