Shadow and Light

I decided to whip up a couple of preemie-sized baby hats for my two grand-nieces. My niece already said she doesn’t want pink stuff for the girls (though she’s gotten plenty of it anyway). I thought it would be amusing to play off of their names and make them “shadow” and “light”.

But I don’t know… maybe black is just too strange for a baby girl.

I may have to whip up a couple more in a more society-approved baby color, just in case.

Oh, and hey – one of the best parts about that free bottle of Crown Royal Special Reserve is the great little purple velvet knitting project bag/yarn holder that came with it. That IS what it’s for, isn’t it?

Do babies even see color at that age?

Of course, that’s what it is!

  2. Chris says:

Actually, at that age, high contrast like b&w is what they see best. My niece had some b&w book that she LOVED because of the contrast.

Your niece will love that her babies have black and white hats. Black goes with EVERYTHING.

white and black, coolest match, brightest ideas.

    I am very impressed!

    So cute!! She’ll love them!

Maybe a little less contrast would be better for tiny babies. Well, everyone else thinks it’s a cute idea so go with it!

SO cute! I don’t think that black is an inappropriate color. Especially with the contrasting detail, and the matching sibling hat!

Love repurposing such bags. I use my LLBean bag for fiber festival carry. Water bottle…camera….fiber….yarn…..spinning tools….map of fairgrounds….list of vendors….everything fits. It’s my answer to the strollers. :)

Great hats!! And I thot the bag was for Scrabble pieces…..

  9. I think black is adorable for wee babies. They will grow really fast, so you can make the next matching hats in a different color if you choose, but black and white are awesome. They will be chic babies!

Are they still in the incubators? You could make matching covers.

Of course that is what that bag is for! All my dpn’s and circulars are in Crown Royal bags. I highly approve of your hats (not that you need my approval) but making baby things in non-traditional colours is very good. They will definitely grow up to be fashionistas.
