Listen Up

While laughing over a recent podcast, it occurred to me that I’ve never really mentioned the podcasts I listen to.

If you enjoy knitting podcasts, maybe you’ll find something here that’s new to you.

My top three picks:

My overall favorite is Cast-On, by Brenda Dayne, who presently lives in Wales. It’s professional, interesting, funny, and educational. Each season has a theme – I particularly enjoyed last season’s “Make Do and Mend” series. And Brenda’s voice is a pleasure to listen to. (By the way, she recorded “The Age of Innocence” for Librivox, which is a free download.)

For a good laugh, head to “Here’s to Ewe“, a new podcast by “MaddieHatter” and “RedQueen”, who live in Las Vegas. These two should have a stand-up routine. Well, I guess they do, with their podcast. There’s information on yarn shops and knitting events in the Southwest, plus stories about life in Las Vegas, including “Drunk in Public” stories.

The Knitmore Girls podcast is great for real knitting content. It’s a mother-daughter duo (Gigi and Jasmine) in San Jose. Some of the regular features are “On the Needles”,  “Mother Knows Best” and “When Knitting Attacks”.

Others I listen to are:

Stash and Burn with Jenny and Nicole in San Francisco, and Doubleknit with Erin and Jessica in Seattle. Both of these are pretty similar in format – talking about what they’re working on, patterns they find interesting, reviews of issues of magazines like Interweave Knits, etc.

Occasionally I’ll also download the KnitPicks Podcast, depending on the subject.

Enjoy!

Great topic! I listen to most of these. I have also recently discovered The Knitting Show, with Peter and Dierdre (yarndude and clumsyknitter); and Knitting in the Round.

Hmm. I haven’t listened to a podcast in a year or two. Wonder why?

What a timely post! I just finished getting caught up on Stash and Burn, and needed suggestions for other good podcasts! Thanks. And happy US Thanksgiving!

I’d say I was going to check these out, but I can’t remember to sync my iPod to get This American Life, so I’d just be fibbing!
