Mr. Stripey Tomato

Last year I planted “Mr. Stripey” tomatoes, and got exactly zero tomatoes off the plant. But hearing good things from other people, I decided to give him one more chance this year. Well, not only am I overloaded with tomatoes this year, but they’re gigantic! Much larger than the Beefmaster ones I’m also growing. This one’s a smidge over 4 1/2 inches across. Now, I wouldn’t exactly call them stripey, (and it’s a good thing, or May would be over here laying all over them), but they’re pretty and delicious. Especially made into a caprese salad or sandwich, with some delicious fresh buffalo mozzarella and fresh basil. Yum!

Yeah, and you know cat hair does NOTHING for the flavor of tomatoes - or really, any food, come to think of it…

OMG! I just got an e-mail from Val where she describes her grilled cheese and tomato sandwich, but one slice of that would cover ANY piece of bread! It’s GORGEOUS! I hope one of them gets ripe while I’m stealing from your garden :)

I would like to commend you on the most beautiful tomato I have ever seen. Perhaps I could bring you some fresh basil from my little pot of herbs. They seem to have been kissed by the same beautiful sun.
