007 Snap a Dozen Days - July
Published July 28, 2007 by cheryl
What could be more Snap-a-Dozen Days worthy than a morning at Cedar Breaks in July? Cedar Breaks is sort of a mini-Bryce Canyon - it’s not as big, but the colors are just as fantastic. Click the thumbnails for a better view.
It’s the peak of wildflower season, and it couldn’t have been more beautiful. We were surrounded by the whistling of many Broad-tailed hummingbirds, but unfortunately none would pose for a photo. I also got a quick glimpse of a bright yellow bird I thought at first was a goldfinch, until I saw it’s bright orange head. I’m pretty sure I was lucky enough to spy a Western Tanager.
In other parts of the mountains, the sagebrush was damp from the rain and smelled wonderful. Even the birds spiders and the bees were enjoying the wonderful day. I had stopped to take a photo of the silvery sagebrush, when I spotted this huge bumblebee flitting around, his legs swollen with pollen. Fortunately I was able to grab a photo before he was off to the next flower. Even the rocks were beautiful with their coating of lichen.

Gorgeous pictures. I love those huge bumblebees - it’s a wonder that they can get off the ground especially with a full payload on board.
Beautiful photos! I love looking at all the different lichen and moss on rocks.
Cedar Breaks is such an amazing place. You saw a nice variety of flowers!
I particularly love the first three pictures - what an amazing place!
